About Tom Ford
Tom Ford launched his eponymous fashion house in 2005, several years after leaving his post as creative director at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. He partnered with the Estée Lauder Companies to build out the fragrance and beauty side of the brand as Tom Ford Beauty. That partnership runs two collections: Signature, the wider-distribution line sold through Sephora, Nordstrom, and department stores, and Private Blend, the smaller, pricier, more niche-positioned collection home to releases like Tuscan Leather and Tobacco Vanille. Composed by David Apel and Pierre Negrin and released in 2006, it was the first fragrance under the new Tom Ford Beauty partnership. Grey Vetiver EDP: the original, brighter and more citrus-led
Grey Vetiver Eau de Parfum is the 2009 release that founded the whole Grey Vetiver line. Grapefruit, orange blossom, and sage open cold and clean, orris, nutmeg, and pimento round out the heart, and vetiver, oakmoss, and amber settle the base into something dry and businesslike. Grey Vetiver Parfum: warmer, stripped to three notes
Grey Vetiver Parfum launched in 2023 and is not the EDP at higher strength, it's a different composition. Orange blossom opens warm and almost boozy, saffron carries a leathery heart, and Haitian vetiver settles the base into dry, smoky woods. No dedicated clone of this specific Parfum has surfaced; the budget options on the market, including Armaf's Just Jack Vetiver, all target the older EDP's structure instead. Beau de Jour: a sharper, modern fougère
Beau de Jour opens on lavender and lavender extract, moves through a green, herbal heart of rosemary, mint, basil, and geranium over oakmoss, and dries down to patchouli and amber. Perfumer Antoine Maisondieu, also credited for Armani Code, composed it, and the fragrance community's most consistent reference point for it is Davidoff's 1986 classic Zino, though that lineage traces to community discussion rather than a citable interview.
