Best Amber Fragrance Decants in Canada
"Amber" isn't a single note. In our own product data it's a Main Accord, and it turns up next to labdanum, benzoin, vanilla, dry wood and ambroxan: warm, resinous, sweet-woody. Thirty-three of our active products carry the Family: Amber tag. These eleven cover the real spread inside it, from a $5 clone up to the niche original that clone is chasing. Everything starts at 2ml.
Baccarat Rouge 540 and both clones we stock
In this corner of the fragrance world, "amber" and "Baccarat Rouge 540" get used almost interchangeably. Here's why.
Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540
Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 is the reference point, $20 for a 2ml. A saffron and amberwood glow. It stays airy, mineral rather than heavy, and the projection reads unmistakable across a room. It's one of the most imitated fragrances on the market today.
Armaf Club de Nuit Untold
Tagged a clone of Baccarat Rouge 540, and Armaf Club de Nuit Untold earns the tag at $9 a 2ml. Same saffron opening, sweet and a little metallic. It projects harder than the original for the first hour, then settles into something quieter.
Maison Alhambra Baroque Rouge 540
Five dollars for a 2ml of Maison Alhambra Baroque Rouge 540. Also tagged a Baccarat Rouge 540 clone. It opens on saffron and pear, and it's one of the closer reads on the Baccarat Rouge 540 signature at this price. It wears lighter and fades faster than the original. At five dollars that trade is easy to make.

Designer amber, five ways
All five carry the Family: Amber tag. No two use it the same way. Gourmand-sweet, spicy-leathery, floral, or a warm base sitting under something else entirely.
Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Le Parfum
Once it gets dark and cold, this is the one you reach for. Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Le Parfum at $10 a 2ml, a deeper, sweeter turn on the classic Le Male. Cardamom over a creamy vanilla-woods base, polished and easy to wear.
Guerlain Mon Guerlain Intense
On the sweet end, Guerlain Mon Guerlain Intense. Two vanillas in the heart, Tahitian and Madagascar, over a velvety, cashmere-like base, and $13 gets you a 2ml of it. Sweeter, woodier and more dressed up than the original Mon Guerlain.
Yves Saint Laurent Libre
Yves Saint Laurent Libre is built on a clash the perfumers put there on purpose. A crisp, masculine lavender running into a creamy, feminine orange blossom. That tension is the whole fragrance. $14 for a 2ml, and it settles into a warm vanilla base, soft but noticeable.
Bentley Intense
Bentley Intense is $8 for a 2ml, and we call it "a proper powerhouse." Spiced rum over leather, built for cold weather and evenings out... a little goes a long way with this one.
Rochas Moustache EDP
For the office, Rochas Moustache EDP. Pink pepper over a soft vanilla, refined rather than loud, $7 for a 2ml. It gets brought up often as a wallet-friendly alternative to YSL Tuxedo. One thing to know: this 2018 formula is a modern reinterpretation, not a copy of the 1949 original Moustache.
Niche and clone-house, beyond Baccarat Rouge
Three more, further out on either end of the price range.
Creed Aventus
Creed Aventus carries the Family: Amber tag, but its own Main Accords field leads with "Fresh, Fruity, Smoky, Woody," not amber. The amber is all in the drydown: oakmoss and ambergris under the pineapple. It's the benchmark behind several of the affordable bottles in this shop, including some of the clones stocked here. Same $20 for a 2ml as the Baccarat Rouge 540 up top.
Nishane Ani X
Nishane Ani X is the loud version of Ani, in extrait strength. Sparkling ginger-lemon over a plush vanilla base, $16 for a 2ml. Cécile Zarokian composed both Ani and Ani X, so this is a perfumer amplifying her own work.
Lattafa Asad
And Lattafa Asad, tagged as a clone of Dior Sauvage Elixir, not an amber original itself. The Family: Amber tag traces to its own base: vanilla and amber under the black pepper. Bold, a little smoky sweet, and it runs strong. Six dollars a 2ml.
Try the whole family in one set
The Ember Discovery Set is built around this exact profile. Five 2ml vials for $56.70, and that's the price of the whole set, not one fragrance. It puts Lattafa Asad next to Lattafa Khamrah, Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Elixir, Xerjoff 1861 Naxos and Kilian Angels' Share. The warm side of the catalog. Coals, vanilla smoke, cinnamon, cognac. All 33 products carrying the Family: Amber tag are browsable on our Amber collection page.
If you're only buying one
Buy the reference first if you can. The original, Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540, is what the two Baccarat Rouge clones here are copying. The cheaper route is to let those clones answer for you, since Armaf Club de Nuit Untold and Maison Alhambra Baroque Rouge 540 run $5 to $9 for a 2ml and settle the question directly. And some people want amber with no Baccarat Rouge association at all, which is where Guerlain Mon Guerlain Intense, Bentley Intense and Rochas Moustache come in, each taking it somewhere different. Both houses behind those clones, Armaf and Maison Alhambra, are covered in more depth on our Armaf in Canada and Maison Alhambra in Canada pages, and Lattafa Asad's house is covered on our Lattafa in Canada page.
Frequently asked questions
What does "amber" actually smell like?
It's an accord, not a single ingredient. It's the part of a fragrance that reads warm instead of fresh. Guerlain's lavender-vanilla and Bentley's spiced leather both carry the tag, and they smell nothing alike.
Which of these is closest to a gourmand, sweet-dessert style?
Guerlain Mon Guerlain Intense first, on a double vanilla heart with licorice and benzoin sitting under it. Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Le Parfum is the other clear one. Rochas Moustache closes on benzoin and vanilla too, so it lands in the same neighbourhood without ever turning into dessert.
What sizes are these available in?
All eleven start at 2ml. All eleven come in 5ml and 10ml too, and several, including Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540, Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Le Parfum, Guerlain Mon Guerlain Intense, Yves Saint Laurent Libre, Creed Aventus and Nishane Ani X, go up to 30ml. The Ember Discovery Set is sold as one fixed set of five 2ml vials.
Do you ship Canada-wide?
Almost. Provinces and territories both, but fragrance moves as dangerous goods, and a few remote communities are served only by air services we can't use. If that's your address, we tell you, cancel the order and refund it in full. Every decant is hand-poured from an authentic bottle in Regina, Saskatchewan. Orders over $55 ship free to any Canadian province. Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut ship at a flat $18.99 per order, and orders over $150 ship free to those territories. Regina orders of $25 or more qualify for free local hand delivery.
