The Scent

The fragrance that defined a whole genre, and the benchmark behind several of the affordable bottles in this shop, including the Club de Nuit Intense Man, Supremacy NOI, Qaed Al Fursan, and Vanguard. Crisp pineapple and blackcurrant open over bergamot, apple, and pink pepper, then smoky birch moves in with jasmine and patchouli, settling into oakmoss, musk, ambergris, and a little vanilla. Bold, fruity, and smoky, with the kind of presence that earned its reputation. A confident scent for day or night, most of the year.

Worth Knowing

Aventus was created for Creed's 250th anniversary and is reportedly inspired by the story of Napoleon Bonaparte, with blackcurrant from Corsica, where he was born, and birch from Louisiana, which he once ruled over. It's gone on to become the best-selling fragrance in the brand's long history.

Where It Came From

Released in September 2010, it reshaped what people expected from a modern masculine fragrance, and it's since spawned an entire flanker family, including versions for women, a Cologne edition, and a 10th Anniversary release.

About Creed

Creed dates back to 1760 in London, where James Henry Creed started out as a tailor to British royalty and aristocracy before moving into perfumery. The house later relocated to Paris at the invitation of Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie, and it's remained there ever since. Creed has stayed in the same family for generations, passed from father to son, and continues to produce many of its own essences using traditional methods most other houses gave up on long ago.
