The Scent

Cardamom opens warm and lightly spiced, and the leather arrives almost immediately behind it: a smooth, polished black-leather accord that reviewers consistently compare to a new leather jacket or car seats rather than anything raw or animalic. Jasmine sambac runs underneath and keeps the heart from going flat, adding a faintly sweet floral glow most people read as richness rather than flowers. The base settles into amber, moss, and patchouli, an earthy warmth that carries the leather for hours. Performance is one of this fragrance's selling points: reviewers commonly report eight-plus hours on skin, with a strong projection phase through the first two to three, and it is regularly cited as a cold-weather compliment-getter.

Worth Knowing

This 2018 release reworked the limited-run Ombré Leather 16 from 2016 into a permanent, wider-distribution Signature-collection fragrance, and it became one of Tom Ford's best sellers. The line has since grown around it: the denser Ombré Leather Parfum arrived in 2021 and the lighter Eau d'Ombré Leather in 2024. The clone market treats this exact composition as a reference. Maison Alhambra's Opulence Leather, previously sold as Amber & Leather, copies the pyramid note for note, cardamom over leather and jasmine sambac over amber, moss, and patchouli, and we stock it, so you can wear the original against its best-known clone on your own skin before deciding where your money goes.

Where It Came From

Ombré Leather launched in 2018 as part of Tom Ford Beauty's Signature collection. Perfumer Sonia Constant of Givaudan built it around the image of the American desert, in Tom Ford's words capturing the sensuality of rich black leather against warm skin, textured with patchouli, amber, and moss.
