The Scent

A fruity blackcurrant-and-peach opening that settles quickly into its real business: roasted coffee wrapped in amber and warm woods, sweetened just enough, with white musk smoothing the base. The coffee is ambient rather than dominant, more the smell of a café than a cup held to your nose. And despite the name, the published note pyramid lists no oud at all; some wearers swear they smell a dark resinous thread in the base, but on paper this is a coffee-amber, not an oud.

Worth Knowing

A number of independent wearers report a distinct celery-like facet after the opening, of all things. Most people never smell it, some find it interesting, a few can't get past it. That is exactly the kind of quirk a 2ml exists to settle before you commit to a full bottle.

Released in 2013, early in Mancera's catalogue, and it has stayed in the line ever since as the house's coffee entry.

Mancera is the Paris house founded in 2008 by Pierre Montale, five years after he founded Montale, together with his daughter Amélie. The two houses share DNA: dense, long-wearing compositions with a taste for oud and amber.
