The Scent

A sharp, sour-green yuzu opening that catches people off guard, then it turns floral and green through lily-of-the-valley with warm nutmeg and cinnamon behind it, and finishes woody and musky on vetiver, cedar and sandalwood. Thirty years on it still does not smell like much else.

Worth Knowing

The first five minutes divide people more than the rest of the fragrance does, so give it time before deciding. Long-time owners also consistently report that older bottles wore stronger than current production, which is a common story with fragrances this old. Barely anyone bothers cloning it, and the usual reason given is that the original is already cheap enough that there is no room to undercut it.

Released in 1994, two years after the women's L'Eau d'Issey, and it became one of the defining masculine fragrances of the decade.
