The Scent

Same opening as Interlude Man: bergamot, oregano, and pimento, bright and a little savory before the fire starts. Amber, incense, and labdanum build a dense, resinous heart with opoponax underneath, rounder and creamier than the standard version at this 53% concentration and after six times the aging. The base runs smoke, oud, leather, patchouli, and sandalwood, smoky and grounded, with a heavier sandalwood presence than Interlude Man. It’s the same soul, just turned up and given far longer to settle. Big, warm, and built for cold nights.

Worth Knowing

Interlude 53 isn’t a new composition. Amouage frames it as the same soul as Interlude Man at 53% oil concentration, aged 24 weeks (16 weeks of maceration, 8 of maturation) versus the standard version’s shorter process. The main differences on paper: Interlude Man’s heart carries vanilla and its base runs to oud, credited to perfumer Pierre Negrin; Interlude 53 drops the vanilla, keeps a smoky oud-leather base, and doesn’t list a perfumer on Amouage’s own product page. We also carry the standard Amouage Interlude Man EDP separately, and the two are related, not identical, so don’t mix them up when ordering.

Interlude 53 is generally dated to around 2020, extending Amouage’s Interlude Man into an extreme-concentration extrait rather than replacing it.
