Strawberry and raspberry, light the whole way down, resting on a clean pale musk. YSL markets it as a "white chypre," which in plain terms means a modern, airy take on that structure, none of the mossy heaviness the word usually signals. Three Firmenich perfumers built it, Olivier Cresp, Harry Fremont, and Dora Baghriche, around a declaration-of-love-for-Paris concept.

Now Smell This called it a competent but somewhat generic entry in the crowded pink-fruity-floral category. Pleasant and easy-wearing rather than distinctive. Fair. It's not trying to surprise anyone... it's trying to smell good every single day, and it does.

Libre and the lavender clash

The whole fragrance is built on one deliberate clash: a crisp, slightly soapy-sharp lavender against a creamy, sweet orange blossom. A fougère, plainly put, is the old barbershop structure built on lavender, and perfumer Anne Flipo has said she wanted to "revisit a masculine structure, the fougère, by insisting on details that could turn it into a very feminine scent." She and Carlos Benaïm, both of IFF, got it to shelves in 2019, reportedly after 1,500+ trial versions, and YSL launched it with a deliberately gender-fluid campaign fronted by Dua Lipa. The drydown stays soft and noticeable, never dense. It needs a light hand at the office.
