Valentino Born in Roma Donna: EDP vs Extradose Parfum, Which to Buy (Canada)
Same house, same name, two different perfumes. The 2019 Born in Roma Donna EDP is a jasmine perfume sitting on vanilla. The 2025 Born in Roma Donna Extradose Parfum takes the jasmine out, puts rum in its place and turns the vanilla up. Close relatives. Not the same scent. Anyone buying the second because they loved the first should know that before the box arrives.

What changes when the jasmine goes
The EDP opens tart: blackcurrant and pink pepper over bergamot. Then it lands on jasmine, and that heart is the whole point of the perfume. Valentino builds it from three separate jasmine materials layered together instead of a single white-floral accord, and it reads as flower rather than sugar. Bourbon vanilla, cashmeran and guaiac wood hold it up from below, so the finish comes out musky-sweet and modern.
The Extradose keeps the blackcurrant and throws the jasmine out. Rum sits where the flowers were, and the bourbon vanilla comes forward until it is the loudest thing in the bottle. Louder and longer than the EDP, which is the entire reason the bottle exists: Extradose is Valentino's word for the amped-up concentration, more vanilla, more projection, more staying power. Reviewers commonly report a full workday of wear.
The Extradose costs more per millilitre
At 10ml the EDP decant is $51.00 and the Extradose is $67.00. That is $5.10 a millilitre against $6.70, so the stronger one runs about 31 percent more for the same amount of liquid. You are paying for concentration and for a 2025 release, not for a better perfume. Both come in 2ml, 5ml, 10ml and 30ml here.
Which one to start with
Start with the EDP. It is the bottle the line was built on, it costs less per millilitre, and the jasmine heart is the thing people actually remember about Born in Roma. The Extradose earns its price after dark and in cold weather, where a heavy vanilla has room to sit without crowding a room. Already own the EDP and want more of it? Extradose is not more of it. It is a different heart on a similar base, and it deserves a 2ml before it gets a 30ml.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Extradose a reformulation of the EDP?
No. It is a separate release with its own note list, and the 2019 EDP is still its own product. We stock and decant both.
Which is stronger?
The Extradose, by design. It is a Parfum concentration against the EDP's eau de parfum, and Valentino sells it on projection and staying power. It also sits closer to a gourmand, so a light hand goes further with it.
What is the cheapest way to compare them?
A 2ml of each: $14.00 for the EDP, $19.00 for the Extradose, $33.00 for the pair. Wear one on each wrist for a day and the question answers itself. If you want a longer read on sizes, we wrote 2ml vs 5ml vs 10ml, and How Decanting Works covers what happens before the vial reaches you.
How does it ship to me in Canada?
Almost anywhere. Fragrance moves as a dangerous good, and a few remote or fly-in communities are served only by air carriers we cannot use. If yours is one, we tell you, cancel the order and refund it in full. Every decant is hand-poured from an authentic bottle in Regina, Saskatchewan. Orders over $55 ship free to the provinces. In Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut that free line is $150 instead. In Regina, any order of $25 or more gets free hand delivery.
