About Amouage
Amouage is an Omani perfume house established in 1983 under the patronage of the Sultanate of Oman. It built its reputation on rare raw materials, frankincense and oud with strong regional ties, and pricing that sits at the top of the market. Interlude Man: the incense-forward core release
Interlude Man (2ml decant $20, up to 30ml for $181) was composed by perfumer Pierre Negrin and is generally dated to around 2012. Bergamot opens bright and brief, then oregano and pimento berry push in with a sharp, almost savory spice that sets this apart from a standard amber opening. The heart burns through amber, frankincense, cistus and opoponax, a dense resinous core that reads as much like incense as perfume, before settling into leather, agarwood smoke, patchouli and sandalwood. Opus XIV Royal Tobacco: bigger, denser, and technically genderless

It carries Amouage's own "Beyond Gender" framing rather than being marketed as men's or women's. Frankincense, elemi and cardamom open with anise and basil layered through bergamot, a spiced, resinous top with real bite. The heart is where the tobacco shows up: tobacco absolute and liquorice root over lavender, orange blossom, osmanthus and rose, a wide, layered floral-spice build. The base is enormous, frankincense resinoid, Peru balsam, benzoin, labdanum, myrrh, birch tar, tonka bean, vanilla, vetiver, guaiac wood and Assam oud, dense and built to last.
Interlude Man vs Opus XIV: how they actually differ

The difference is in what carries the weight. Interlude Man leans leather and agarwood smoke in its base, a darker, more singular idea built around incense and skin-warmed smoke. Opus XIV leans tobacco and a much longer note list overall, a wider, more layered composition where the tobacco heart is doing the work Interlude Man asks its base to do.
