The Scent

An explosive spice opening: pink pepper, saffron, cardamom and nutmeg over frankincense, with a savoury edge many wearers read as cumin. It settles into myrrh and incense, then a long base of leather, restrained oud, patchouli and sandalwood with an animalic castoreum undertone. The saffron-and-leather pairing is what people remember, slightly sweet, slightly shiny, unmistakably Middle Eastern. Worth knowing before you buy it for the name: the oud here is a supporting player, not the star. This is a spice-incense-leather fragrance built on the Silk Road idea, and reviewers who come to it expecting an oud bomb leave surprised.

Worth Knowing

Batch matters, and the community is blunt about it. Owners of older bottles report eight to twelve hours of strong wear, while a consistent run of recent reviews describes 2024 and 2025 batches as smoother, less animalic and considerably shorter-lived, with some reporting six hours or less. Amouage has never announced a reformulation, so treat it as wearer consensus rather than fact, but it is exactly the situation a decant exists for: find out what the current juice does on your skin before committing to a full bottle at this price.

Where It Came From

Released in 2009 alongside Epic Woman, composed by Randa Hammami around a journey-down-the-Silk-Road concept. Not to be confused with Epic 56, a separate women's extrait from 2021. Epic Man has stayed in Amouage's main collection ever since and is regularly named among the house's essential masculines.
