Six other Canadian shops decant fragrance today, tracked against our own catalog every month, plus us. Here's a straight look at where each one is strong, where it isn't, and why we built Atelier Elemental the way we did instead of copying any of them.
What actually matters when you're choosing a decant shop
Five things separate a good decant shop from a risky one: whether the bottles are actually authentic and traceable, whether the shipping method is even legal for a flammable liquid, how deep the catalog actually goes, what you're paying, and whether anyone helps you figure out what to buy in the first place. We'll walk through all six shops against those five things, not only price.
Parfum Exquis
Montreal, Quebec. The biggest catalog of the group by a wide margin: 1,442 products across 122 vendors, real niche and indie relationships (Xerjoff, Parfums de Marly, BDK Parfums, Amouage), and a real body-care line alongside the fragrance. Its standout feature is a hybrid model: about two-thirds of its listings sell a decant and the full bottle on the same product page, so a customer who falls for a 5ml can go straight to the full bottle without leaving the site. We don't currently offer that path at all, and it's a good idea.
Its site carries an EN/FR language toggle, and the navigation is properly translated. Whether that depth extends to full French product pages and blog content wasn't confirmed either way in our research. We're Regina-based, not Quebec-based, but full product-level French translation, not only the site navigation, across our whole catalog is something we've built that we haven't found evidence of anywhere else in this group yet, Parfum Exquis included.
Cologne Decanted
Positions itself squarely on price. Its own homepage describes itself as one of the best-priced options in the category, and it runs a catalog of around 600 products, decants and full bottles both. If price per milliliter is the variable you're optimizing for, it's a real option worth comparing against directly.
What we couldn't find on its site: any stated compliance detail around how a flammable liquid like perfume actually ships, or a guidance layer like a quiz or curated comparison content. That's not a knock, most decant shops don't publish that detail. It's just not there to compare against.
Mano Decants
Richmond, British Columbia. A pure decant operation, 727 products across 83 vendors, weighted heavily toward Middle Eastern clone-house lines: Lattafa, Armaf, Rasasi, Afnan, Al Haramain, Swiss Arabian. Its real strength is a premium-atomizer upsell running on 99% of its catalog, a scalable add-on we don't currently offer.
Its French navigation exists but reads as machine-translated rather than properly localized, including one visible error where "Fragrance World," a brand name, gets translated into French instead of left as-is. No guidance layer, no comparison content, and no full-bottle option were found either. It's built for search-capture breadth across clone-house SKUs, not for helping someone decide what to buy.
Fragrance Milking
A large, active catalog, 678 products across 86 vendors, adding new listings the same day fragrances release. Broad designer coverage: YSL, Tom Ford, Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, Valentino.
One thing worth knowing if you're comparing shipping options: its own shipping policy page states that Canadian orders move by Canada Post's untracked lettermail service. Lettermail isn't the same service class as a parcel, and Canada Post's own Safe Mailing Guide restricts perfume, a flammable liquid, Dangerous Goods Class 3, to surface parcel shipping with the correct hazard labelling, not lettermail. We're not making an accusation here, that's what their own policy page says, and it's the reason every decant that leaves our shop ships as a properly labelled ground parcel instead.
My Perfume Shop
The largest catalog we track by product count: 3,901 listings across 387 vendors, selling both full bottles and decants, with a dedicated decant-and-sampler-set section. Its homepage leads with an authenticity guarantee and a broad selection across designer, niche, and discontinued fragrances.
At nearly 4,000 products, it's built for breadth of selection rather than a curated point of view, closer to a department store than a specialist. Neither a quiz nor a comparison-guide layer turned up in our research.
SplitzAroma
Laval, Quebec, founded in 2025. The smallest catalog of the group, 104 products across 52 vendors, priced toward the budget end. Worth naming here: it's a real, native French-language storefront, header and footer both, based in Quebec.
What we couldn't confirm from its site is whether that French coverage extends down to individual product pages or stays at the navigation level; the switcher exists either way. No quiz, dupe-comparison content, or loyalty program was found. It's a small, young shop, worth watching rather than dismissing.
What we do differently
We're not the biggest catalog here, and we won't pretend otherwise. Parfum Exquis and My Perfume Shop both carry several times what we do. What we've built instead:
- Full product-level French, not only site navigation. Every product page, not only the theme, gets a real French version. Among the six shops above, only SplitzAroma runs a native French storefront at all, and it's a small catalog; the rest offer, at most, a translated navigation menu over English product pages.
- A compliance-first shipping story we'll actually explain. Every decant ships as a properly labelled ground parcel, the only lawful way to move a flammable-liquid fragrance in Canada, and we say so on our shipping FAQ instead of staying quiet about it.
- A guidance layer. A scent quiz, curated discovery flights, and comparison pages like the ones described on how we verify every dupe we sell. None of the six shops above run anything comparable.
- Sole-source stock. A meaningful share of what we carry, including the entire Bujairami Louis Vuitton line, isn't decanted by any of the six shops above.
- Regina hand delivery. Free, local, and hand-delivered rather than mailed at all, on Regina orders over $25. None of the shops above are based here, so none of them offer this.
The tradeoff
If sheer catalog size is what you want, Parfum Exquis or My Perfume Shop will out-stock us. If price per milliliter on popular clone-house SKUs is the only variable, Cologne Decanted and Mano Decants are built for exactly that. What we're built for is different: knowing what you're buying, why it's labelled the way it is, and getting real guidance instead of a wall of SKUs. Both approaches are legitimate. We just built the second one.

Perfume is a flammable liquid, classified as dangerous goods, and Canada Post restricts it to surface parcel shipping with proper labelling, not lettermail or air.
