Maison Alhambra and Al Haramain both build close, affordable takes on expensive designer and niche fragrances. We stock nine decants across the pair, five from Maison Alhambra and four from Al Haramain, every one hand-poured in Regina from an authentic bottle.

Neither one runs the table

Maison Alhambra covers more ground for less money. Its five decants are tagged against Tom Ford twice, Maison Francis Kurkdjian, Kilian, and Sospiro, and a 2ml runs $5 to $8. Al Haramain has been trading since 1970 and asks $8 to $11 for the same 2ml. What that buys you is the fresh, clean end of this shelf, and Portfolio Neroli Canvas is the reason.

Who these houses are

Maison Alhambra is a premium label from Lattafa Perfumes, launched in the early 2020s to sit a step above Lattafa's mainline releases. The name nods to the Alhambra palace in Granada, Spain, and the catalog has grown to well over 200 fragrances in just a few years. A young label, and on our shelf it does one job. Every one of the five we stock is tagged as a clone of a specific named original.

Kazi Abdul Haque was trading perfume out of a few stores in Makkah and Madinah in 1970. That's Al Haramain, the elder of the two by half a century. It expanded into Dubai in 1981. His son, Mohammed Mahtabur Rahman, leads it now, with over 1,000 fragrances and nearly a hundred showrooms across the Gulf.

What we stock: Maison Alhambra

All five on this side are EDPs. If leather is your thing, start with Opulence Leather, the Tom Ford Ombre Leather clone. It's softer than the name suggests: suede jacket, not biker boot, with a little cardamom up top. The community treats it as a very close, far cheaper take, and plenty call it near identical in the dry down. The 2ml, $8, earns its keep in cooler months, day or night.

Eternal Touch does Tobacco Vanille. Pipe tobacco softened with vanilla and a touch of cocoa, and this style has become a real specialty for the label. It's tagged as a clone of Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille and costs the same $8 as the leather. Cold evenings.

$5 gets you a 2ml of Baroque Rouge 540, the cheapest of the nine and the Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 clone. Saffron over amber, and one of the closer reads on that signature at this price. It wears lighter and fades faster than the original.

Kismet Magic runs $6 for the 2ml. Cognac and praline, boozy and warm, with the praline standing in where Kilian Angels' Share, the tagged original, goes darker and smokier.

The wildcard is Philos Messenger, tagged as a clone of Sospiro Vibrato, a target far less famous than the rest. It opens on grapefruit and ginger, sparkling and sharp. $8.

What we stock: Al Haramain

Neroli Canvas is the one to beat on this side. It's the Tom Ford Neroli Portofino clone, an EDP like the two L'Aventures, and it lands the part people actually want from that scent: clean orange blossom, a soapy freshness, nothing fussy. Our own notes call it one of the best value takes on the original, and plenty of wearers say it lasts longer on skin, which is not something you get to say about a clone often. The 2ml is $11. Reach for it on a warm day.

The caveat comes first on L'Aventure. It swaps the pineapple blast of Creed Aventus, its tagged original, for a sharper citrus opening, then fades faster and quieter. Think daytime citrus-woody musk, not a full Aventus stand-in. At $8 for a 2ml entry into the Aventus genre, still a fair trade.

The office pick on this side is L'Aventure Knight, quiet and close to the skin rather than loud. Creed Green Irish Tweed is its tagged target. Fresh and green, tea and violet leaf. Wear it when you'd rather not announce yourself. 2ml, $8.

Amber Oud Aqua Dubai breaks the pattern twice. It is the only Extrait de Parfum of the nine, and the only one we list as an original composition rather than as a clone of a named original. Watery melon and pineapple come through over a soft amber, light and fresh. People often link it to Louis Vuitton Imagination, though it reads fruitier and sharper, its own thing in a similar neighborhood. A 2ml is $9. It's also the only one here you can buy as a 30ml decant, at $61.

Where to start

Pick by what you're chasing, because the two lineups barely overlap. Leather, tobacco vanilla, boozy gourmand, saffron amber. Those four all sit on the Maison Alhambra side. Philos Messenger, grapefruit and ginger, is the fifth and nothing like them. Shopping for warm weather points you at Al Haramain instead, where three of the four chase green and citrus styles. If closeness to the original is the whole point, Opulence Leather has the strongest case of the nine. It is the only one our own listing calls near identical in the dry down. One from each side, say Baroque Rouge 540 and Neroli Canvas, costs $16 in 2ml decants... cheaper than guessing wrong once.

Are all nine of these decants clones?

Eight of the nine are tagged as clones of specific named originals. The ninth, Al Haramain Amber Oud Aqua Dubai, we list as an original composition instead. People reach for Louis Vuitton Imagination as the comparison, and it reads fruitier and sharper than that.

What's the cheapest way to try both houses?

One 2ml from each side. The cheapest Maison Alhambra 2ml is Baroque Rouge 540 at $5, and the cheapest Al Haramain 2mls are L'Aventure and L'Aventure Knight at $8 each. That's $13 to sample both houses on your own skin.

Is Kismet Magic the same fragrance as Kismet Angel?

Yes. Our bottle is the 2024 formula of Maison Alhambra's Kismet Angel, sold under the name Kismet Magic. It's tagged as a clone of Kilian Angels' Share either way.

Can you get these to me outside Regina?

Yes. Every decant is hand-poured from an authentic bottle in Regina, Saskatchewan. Decant orders over $55 ship free to the provinces. For Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut that free line is $150 instead. If you are in Regina, orders over $25 get free local hand delivery. A few remote and fly-in communities are reachable only by air, and fragrance is not allowed on those services. If your address is one of them, we tell you and refund the order in full.
