The Scent

Grapefruit and bergamot open it cold and effervescent, with mandarin behind them and a green, slightly medicinal snap of rosemary that keeps the citrus from reading like a cologne. Ginger carries that brightness into the heart, where magnolia and damask rose sit soft rather than floral-sweet. The base is where it settles for the long haul: vetiver, patchouli, and Indian sandalwood under musk and tonka, warm but never heavy. The most consistent thing reviewers say about it is that it is linear, and they mean that as a compliment. What you smell in the first ten minutes is close to what you smell six hours later. Performance is strong for a citrus, with community scores around 8/10 for both longevity and projection across more than two thousand voters, and wear reports commonly landing in the eight to ten hour range.

Vibrato belongs to Sospiro's Classica collection, the house's core line, alongside releases like Basso and Il Padrino. It is a standalone composition rather than a flanker of anything. The name and the collection are both musical, which is the thread running through the house's naming.

We have gone with Sospiro's, on the grounds that the house making the fragrance is the better authority on what is in it. If you have seen jasmine and orris listed elsewhere, that is where the difference comes from.

About Sospiro

Sospiro was founded in 2011 by Sergio Momo, who had launched Xerjoff in Turin four years earlier. It is a sister house rather than a Xerjoff sub-line, with its own name, its own bottles, and its own collections, though the two share a founder and an Italian sensibility.
