• Founded in 1983 in Muscat, Oman, at the request of Sultan Qaboos bin Said, by Prince Sayyid Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi
• Originally created as "The Gift of Kings," presented to visiting dignitaries before it was ever sold commercially
• First fragrance, Gold, was composed by legendary French perfumer Guy Robert, known for Calèche and Dioressence
• Built around rare, region-specific ingredients, including Omani frankincense from the Dhofar mountains and the prized Ta'if rose from Saudi Arabia
• Bottle design draws directly from Omani culture: the women's cap is shaped like the dome of Muscat's Grand Mosque, the men's like the handle of a ceremonial dagger
• Operates its own factory in Muscat and is sold in more than 80 countries today

Amouage began not as a commercial venture but as a cultural project, commissioned by the Sultan of Oman to bring the country's centuries-old perfumery tradition to the world, and its first fragrances were gifted to dignitaries rather than sold. That origin still shapes the brand: real research into regional materials like frankincense and Ta'if rose, developed with some of the most respected perfumers in the industry.

The house is known for rich, structured, often incense-forward compositions built with genuine depth rather than mass appeal in mind, Interlude and Gold among its most recognized. It's a strong choice if you want a fragrance with real cultural weight and craft behind it.
